A Little About Us
New Horizons Credit Union's history offers a unique story of progress and growth. Our story begins in 1950, when we were known as Scott Southern Division Employees Credit Union and soon after - simply Scott Credit Union, and our core field of membership was the Scott Paper Company employees and their families.
As the years progressed and industries changed - the Credit Union was flexible enough to change with the times and opened up its field of membership to include more of the Mobile and surrounding communities. The Credit Union did this while keeping true to its Mission to offer financial solutions for every phase of our members' lives.
We are a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative, governed by a member-elected Board of Directors. We lend to our neighbors with all lending decisions made locally. Your hard earned deposits are re-invested right here – on the Gulf Coast. We proudly serve Mobile, Baldwin, Washington, Clarke, Monroe, and Escambia counties in Alabama, and Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties in Florida. We offer members a variety of financial services including surcharge-free world-wide ATM service through Allpoint and 24/7 Online and Mobile account access via NewHCU.org. New Horizons is federally insured by the NCUA and is an Equal Housing Lender, offering "Solutions for the Real World."

What Makes Us Different
Our main goal as a credit union is, like our motto says, to offer "solutions for the real world." We understand that we are here to help our members earn money instead of costing them money. More than 95 million Americans have chosen credit unions over banks because credit unions are owned and controlled by the members. Instead of an earnings forecast to meet or outside stockholders to satisfy, we focus on our members and the community. That’s why the American Banker Gallup Consumer Survey has shown credit unions have surpassed banks in overall customer service and satisfaction since 1983.
When you become a member of New Horizons, you acquire a “share” in the Credit Union. With your membership, you are entitled a vote for our Board of Directors, regardless of the assets you keep or business you do with the Credit Union. Officers and directors are chosen from the membership and serve on a volunteer basis. Since we do not have any stockholders, earnings not set aside for reserves are returned to our members in the form of better rates on loans, higher dividends on savings, and new services.

We participate in local fundraising as well as national charities. We do our best to give back to communities in forms of volunteering, scholarships, participation, etc.
